Program Overview

Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries works to secure a diversified fishing future for communities of eastern Maine and beyond.  Our programs provide innovation and leadership to advance science, management and policy, and are woven together by environmental, economic and civic threads.

What are our goals?

  1. To deliver programs and services that local fishermen need now to succeed and adapt to changing fisheries.
  2. To educate and support the next generation of fishermen, managers and scientists using new tools and approaches.
  3. To establish a pilot program where the Eastern Gulf of Maine becomes the first region where U.S. fisheries are co-managed on an ecosystem basis by a collaboration of federal and state government, scientists and local fishermen.
  4. To contribute to local, national and global learning for sustainable fisheries.
