The Maine Food Strategy is an initiative to create a broad and strongly connected network of organizations, agencies, businesses and individuals contributing to the food system in Maine. This involves a statewide participatory process that identifies and advances shared goals to support a resilient food economy and a thriving natural resource base in our state. Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries is coordinating the seafood portion of the Maine Food Strategy. We are conducting extensive outreach to all involved in the Maine seafood business from fishermen to retailers. The Maine Food Strategy will outline the issues and challenges involved in creating a shoreside food system that allows harvesters to adapt and change fisheries as climate changes. This ability to be responsive is critical to the survival of community-based fishing.
